Preakness Celebration, Inc. is a 501 © (3) organization established in 1988 to produce a series of events in and around Baltimore to celebrate horse racing’s famed Triple Crown thoroughbred race, the Preakness Stakes. It is a separate entity from the Maryland Jockey Club, which hosts the second jewel of horse racing’s Triple Crown at Pimlico Race Course on the third Saturday of May. Preakness Celebration stages a series of events, including hot air balloon ascensions and glows, the Preakness 5-K Run at Pimlico and other special festivities. Most of the events are free and open to the public.
Throughout its 25 year history, Preakness Celebration has accomplished its mission "to create and promote a unique series of fun and diverse events that enhances the Preakness, engages the community, entertains residents & visitors alike, and generates positive economic impact to the City, region and State." The nonprofit organization has supported various area charities each year, including the Disabled Jockeys Fund and the South Baltimore Station.
